Theresia lives with her widowed mother and five siblings in Northwest Cameroon. She would really like to help her mother take care of the younger brothers and sisters, but since 2012 she suffers from various health problems. She was examined repeatedly at a local hospital, without any success. Her problems then brought her to Shisong for more elaborate tests. She stayed there for a week and Dr. Jean-Claude Ambassa diagnosed a heart valve problem that can only be corrected surgically. Theresia desided to try first a drug treatment in order to have time to raise the money for the operation. But soon she realized that all her savings were spent for medication.

As subsistence farmers, Theresia and her mother have no income. Everything they grow is needed by their family and they cannot contribute to the surgery costs.
