Although he is 6 years old, Michel is very small for his age. That is because he suffers from a severe heart defect. Because of Michel's constant breathing problems and his failure to thrive, his parent brought him to the Chantal Biya Foundation in 2010. A heartdefect was identified and he was referred to Shisong for further investigations. However, at that time, Michel was so weak that his parents did not want to risk the long trip from Yaoundè to Shisong (450km, 10 hours night trip in each direction). It is only in January 2015 that Michel was finally brought to Shisong, where Dr. Jean-Claude Ambassa diagnosed multiple heart defects and recommended an urgent operation.

Since Michel's parents are subsistence farmers with four children, it is nearly impossible for them to find the funds to finance the operation. They will however contribute 300.000 CFA (€ 458,00).
