A lot of time often passes before a correct diagnosis is made. This is partly because there is a lack of specialists and partly because families are often reluctant to pay for treatment. This was also the case with Angel. Her symptoms were misinterpreted for a long time and she was treated for gastritis. Eventually an echography was carried out and a ventricular septal defect was diagnosed, which had to be corrected surgically.

Angel attends the first grade of middle school. She has repeatedly had to interrupt school for health reasons. Angel is the youngest of four siblings. Her mother looks after the family on her own.
