Gabila has a long ordeal behind him. He had breathing difficulties from birth, had hardly any appetite and was often tired. When Gabila was 2 years old, he was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot. The congenital heart defect could have been operated on immediately. However, the family refused the operation at that time and also at the annual follow-up examinations. Only now has the family agreed and Gabila has been registered for surgery in February 2025. Dr Charles Mve Mvondo and his team will perform the operation.

Gabila grew up in very modest circumstances with his grandmother. As a petty trader and driver, his parents can barely make ends meet. Perhaps this is why they had refused the operation until now.
