Patricia was the first small patient who had benefited from the evacuation to the Policlinico San Donato Milanese. At the beginning of April, she came to Milan with three other children, accompanied by two Tertiary sisters. On the day of her arrival, Patricia was hospitalized because of her critical condition and was operated on the following day. Everything went well, Patricia has slowly but steadily recovered. A special pleasure for us was the visit to Patricia and the other children in Milan. On May 29, 2019, Patricia returned to Cameroon and was happily received by her parents. Br. Boniface even organized a welcome party.

Patricia suffers from a congenital heart defect, a Tetralogy of Fallot. Doctors from the Cardiac Center Shisong are currently running mobile clinics. Patricia was also examined and it was strongly recommended to evacuate her to Milan for surgery. The parents are very worried. Patricia is the only child in the family and they can not afford the surgery. They are extremely grateful that Patricia, along with other children, may come to Milan for surgery at the San Donato clinic. The children will be accompanied by two Tertiary sisters and a doctor.
Why the evacuation is necessary: Due to the socio-political crisis in Cameroon since autumn 2016, work at the Cardiac Center Shisong is significantly impaired. The violence in the SouthWest and NorthWest has been escalating, many streets are impassable and patients can not come safely to the heart center. Likewise, no guest doctors can visit the heart center. Since October 2018, operations had to be canceled.
How to help? For this reason, a very special rescue mission has been launched - the children are to be brought to the "partner clinic" San Donato in Milan, Italy. 34 children are on the waiting list!
This is made possible by the involvement of several organizations. With the help of the MI-DO donation community and the Friends of Franciscan Mission Outreach, we want to support this rescue mission, with the amount we would also provide for heart operation in Cameroon.
Update 01. April 2019 - Patricia is in Milan and has been successfully operated today!
