Agatha is 42 years old and has already had to cope with many strokes of fate. Four years ago, she lost her parents in an accident of which she was the sole survivor. Then, in 2012, Agatha became very ill. She developed severe edema of the legs and abnormal heart sounds. A bout of malaria forced her to be hospitalized for a month at Bamenda Regional Hospital. In 2013, she was once again hospitalized for severe chest pains and the physicians sent her to the Cardiac Centre Shisong, Dr. Cabral Tantchou diagnosed a severe aortic valve insufficiency that needs to be corrected surgically.

After she got ill, Agatha's husband abandoned her and her 6 children, who are all  going to school. Her meagre income as part-time teacher barely allows her to feed her family and she is thus unable to pay her operation. She will nevertheless try to raise 300.000 FCFA (€ 458,00) towards the costs.
