If someone like Salamatou lives in a small remote village in Cameroon, it is not always easy to get qualified medical help. Salamatou has been suffering from the typical signs of heart disease for almost five years - cough, dyspnoea and fatigue, and a long time ago the doctor suspected a heart problem, but only now the family has decided to send Salamatou to the Cardiac Center in Shisong. Accompanied by a cousin, Salamatou came to Shisong for further investigation at the end of January 2017. Dr. Cabral Tantchou noted a severe mitral valve defect and strongly recommended a surgical intervention.

The parents, Mairamou and Innocent, are self-employed farmers and provide for seven children. They can contribute € 305,00 to the surgery costs but the operation costs 20 times more!
