Final report

Although everything was ready for her arrival at the Cardiac Centre, Anne has decided against an operation. We think that she was too frightened by the procedure. In countries where open heart surgery is still rare, it is sometimes difficult to convince patients to let themselves be treated by surgeons. The funds reserved for Anne were thus allocated to the next urgent case.

Carine, a 22 year-old student, lives with her parents and five siblings in Yaounde, Cameroon's capital city. After suffering for three years and having developed severe edema, she was sent to the Cardiac Centre Shisong, where doctors diagnosed an aortic valve disease. She was operated with success on 25 February 2016 by Dr. Charles Mvondo and his team. 

Carine's parents are both retired and must take care of their six children and they would never have been able to defray the surgery costs. They are deeply grateful for the generous help provided by MI-DO and FMO and for the professional contribution of the Cardiac Centre's team!
