Yvonne's seven brothers and sisters all go to school. The family lives in Wum, in a very fertile region of Northern Cameroon. The parents are farmers who earn enough money to support themselves and their family. For the last years, however, Yvonne has needed special care because her state of health has been steadily deteriorating. At the Cardiac Centre Shisong, Dr. Tanchou Cabral has diagnosed a severe mitral insufficiency and concluded that an operation was inevitable.

Yvonne's family will of course do everything they can to make her operation possible, but they cannot bear the complete financial burden it represents, since this would mean that they would be indebted for many years and that their children would have to stop attending school.
