Final report
It is with great sadness that we report that Baba passed away before the operation in December 2015. May he rest in peace.
The funds collected for Baba has thus been used for the urgent operation needed by 32-year-old Joseph. For many years, Joseph suffered from a variety of health problems such as couphing, respiratory problems and swelling. He finally came to Shisong, where Dr. Jean Claude Ambassa diagnosed both a mitral insufficiency and an aortic insufficiency that needed to be corrected urgently. The operation was realised by Dr. Charles Mvondo and his team on 29 February 2016 and it was a success.
The family would never have been able to raise the funds needed for the procedure. Joseph lost his father three years ago and his mother, a subsistence farmer, has to feed seven children. Joseph and his mother thank wholeheartedly the community of MI-DO donators and the Cardiac Centre family!
As a technician working in Douala, Cameroon's commercial centre, Baba was well able to provide for his wife Jeanne and their child. However, since the beginning of 2014, Baba has been regularly afflicted by health problems. Fortunately, Baba met in the cardiovascular department in Douala, doctors who were able to identify the cardiac origine of his problems and who transferred him to Shisong. There, Dr. Tanchou Cabral diagnosed a coronary heart disease that necessitates an operation.
Baba cannot rely on any financial help from his extended family and cannot defray alone the operation cost. He will however contribute 500.000 frs - the average yearly income in Cameroon!
